Training Opportunities in Exercise Based Cancer Rehabilitation
We offer:
One Day Workshop
Outline of the scientific evidence on the effects of exercise before, during and after cancer diagnosis. An overview of the benefits of exercise for physical and psychological well-being including practical interactive session and demonstrations.
National Vocational Qualification Level 4 as a Cancer Exercise Specialist.
A regular series of 1 hour classes, which will enable participants to confidently advise and provide patients with cancer on an appropriate exercise programme during and/or after cancer treatment.
The following objectives and national occupational standards would guide the workshop/programme format:
- Develop a working knowledge of cancer, its treatments and related symptoms.
- Summarise current research findings on cancer and exercise
- Relate the principles of exercise physiology and psychology to a cancer rehabilitation setting
- Training participants to assess the fitness status of cancer patients and survivors and to develop
- Ability to design and conduct safe and effective exercise programmes based on the clients’ current medical status and fitness levels
- Understand the benefits and barriers of exercise for clients with cancer and use behaviour change theories to encourage long term adherence to exercise.
